• It all started with a young graduate, Abhishek Shukla, witnessing a child begging at the traffic signal. His quest to find answers as to why children beg or more precisely why parents let them beg made him follow the child to the slum where the child lived. No surprise, it was the sheer poverty. On instinct, he offered to teach the children around. The response from parents was overwhelming and thus the journey of Shuruaat began.

• Few more like-minded youth joined the journey to educate slum children. Initially they used their limited savings and spare time. A breakthrough arrived when the team managed to get one of the children admitted to a regular school at an age-appropriate class and soon like-minded people started supporting them through donation. It was the new beginning of a promising path for slum children. That is how the name ´Shuruaat´ was coined.

Seeing the changes that came about in the children, the women slowly started coming forward. and joined the classes to learn reading and writing. Some even later on volunteered their time to teach some of the young children.
